The Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iași (TUIASI), through its Faculty of Automatic Control and Computers, will host the 30th edition of the International Conference on System Theory, Control and Computing (ICSTCC 2026) from 21 to 24 October 2026. The conference will take place at the International Hotel Iași, in the Palas complex, marking three decades of research and collaboration in fields that contribute to technological advancement. This year’s edition will focus on key research topics and challenges in artificial intelligence, robotics, control theory, embedded systems, quantum computing and cybersecurity.

The conference provides an international forum for presenting research findings, exchanging ideas and fostering collaboration among universities and research institutions. Of the 311 papers submitted by authors from 24 countries, 187 were accepted following scientific evaluation. These figures reflect the conference’s international reach and the diversity of research contributions represented in its programme.
Four Plenary Talks on Emerging Research Directions
The programme features four plenary talks by researchers affiliated with institutions in the United States, Switzerland and Germany.
Drăguna Vrabie, from Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (USA); Călin Belta, from the University of Maryland (USA); Ivano Tavernelli, from IBM Research Europe – Zurich (Switzerland); and Radu Timofte, from the University of Würzburg (Germany), will address research topics spanning systems theory and control, discrete-event systems, quantum computing and artificial intelligence for image analysis.
The range of topics reflects the interdisciplinary nature of contemporary research and the growing connections between automatic control, computing, robotics and intelligent technologies. The plenary talks will give participants the opportunity to learn about recent developments and engage with research directions across these evolving fields.

From Theoretical Foundations to Practical Applications
The scientific programme of ICSTCC 2026 covers a broad range of research areas, including systems theory, control, robotics, intelligent systems, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and distributed systems. Alongside the regular scientific sessions, eight invited sessions will provide opportunities to explore selected topics in greater depth and examine emerging interdisciplinary research directions.
The programme brings together fundamental research and application-oriented work, encouraging discussion of both the theoretical foundations and the practical challenges associated with the development and implementation of modern technologies.
The relationship between academic research and industry will also be addressed at the Industrial Applications roundtable, which will bring together representatives of the academic community and industry. The discussion will focus on aligning research outcomes more closely with industry needs and identifying opportunities for collaboration and knowledge transfer.
The Women in Engineering session will highlight the contributions of women to engineering and technological research, supporting their visibility and participation while promoting a more inclusive and diverse scientific community.
Three Decades of Research and Collaboration
Over the course of its 30 editions, ICSTCC has provided a forum for researchers working in systems theory, control and computing to present their findings, exchange ideas and establish scientific collaborations. This anniversary edition continues that tradition at a time when advances in artificial intelligence, robotics and emerging computing technologies are creating new research opportunities and raising increasingly complex scientific and technological challenges.
By bringing together researchers from different countries and disciplines, ICSTCC 2026 will continue to support the exchange of knowledge, the development of scientific collaborations and the advancement of research in fields shaping future technologies.
The conference is organised by faculties from six technical universities in Romania, located in Iași, Galați, Bucharest, Timișoara, Craiova and Cluj-Napoca, with technical support from the IEEE Control Systems Society.
