Cristofor Simionescu Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Environmental Protection and Department of Environmental Engineering and Management, from Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iasi organizes the 13 th International Conference on Environmental Engineering and Management –ICEEM13, between September 17 – 20 2025, in Iasi, Romania. This edition is organized in collaboration with Universita Politecnica delle Marche, Italy. After 4 editions abroad, ICEEM06, Balatonalmady, Hungary; ICEEM07, Vienna, Austria; ICEEM09, Bologna, Italy; ICEEM 11, Muttenz, Switzerland, the actual edition of ICEEM is again hosted by the Gheorghe Asachi Technical University, in Iasi.
Under the headline Empower Sustainability, ICEEM13 will be a platform for scientific dissemination, boosting internationalization, multi-disciplinarity and research collaboration. ICEEM13 invites academia, industry and societal representatives to contribute to innovative, multi-disciplinarity and cross-sectorial research to tackle current and future environmental and sustainability problems. The 13 th Edition of ICEEEM represents a highly scientific international event, dedicated to promote and disseminate remarkable scientific results in the fields of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, Materials and Innovative Processes, Environmental Management and Sustainable Development.
This year’s edition, has 143 participants (104 from Romania and 39 from abroad), registered for 3 plenaries, 7 invited conferences on parallel sections, 50 oral communications and 75 posters, grouped under 7 major conference topics: I. Biotechnologies and bio-processes, II. Novel processes and technologies, III. Water and wastewater cycles in the context of circular (bio)economy, IV. Innovative and advanced materials, V. Sustainability assessment & eco-innovation, VI. Waste management in the context of circular (bio)economy, VII. Waste management in the context of circular (bio)economy and one Thematic workshop.
The ICEEM13 participants are well known specialists in chemical engineering and environmental protection coming from fifteen countries and three continents: Austria, Brazil, Chile, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Mexico, Portugal, Czech Republic, Republica of Moldova, Romania, Slovenia, United States of America, Hungary.
The extended abstracts were published in the ICEEM13 Conference Abstracts Book, published at the ECOZONE Publishing House of the Academic Organization for Environmental Engineering and Sustainable Development (OAIMDD).

The series of International Conferences on Environmental Engineering and Management, was initiated and organized every 2 years, since 2002, by Department of Environmental Engineering and Management, Cristofor Simionescu Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Environmental Protection, of Gheorghe Asachi Technical University Iasi. Starting with this edition, Cristofor Simionescu Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Environmental Protection was actively involved in the organisation of ICEEM13. ICCEM conference series aimed from the beginning, to bring together international researchers, academics, professionals and students, activating in the fields of environmental engineering, environmental management and sustainability and to support knowledge exchange and dissemination of specific research and educational programmes. The conference language was exclusively English for all ICEEM editions.
Cristofor Simionescu Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Environmental Protection (FCEEP) from Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iasi (TUIASI) has as mission the formation of specialists for the domains of Chemical and Environmental Engineering through Bachelor of Science programs (4 years), Master of Science programs (2 years) and PhD programs (3 years). Also, the faculty is involved in research projects financed at national, international level or with industry in the fields of chemical and biochemical engineering, environmental engineering and other domains and in post- doctoral research programs for specialists from various fields.
The research, innovation and dissemination activities are associated to the academic activities and represent components that cannot be separated from the formative process able to facilitate knowledge and technical progress.
The significant contrubution that the faculty bring to the scientific production of TUIASI is due to a scientific community highly qualified, innovative and creative organised in research centres recognised at national and international level as follows:

Department of Environmental Engineering and Management (DEEM) is part of the “Cristofor Simionescu” Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Environmental Protection (FCEEP) of TUIASI. DEEM has been established under its actual structure in 1990 and it was ranked on the first place at the level of Romanian universities due to its performances in education and research in the field of environmental engineering. In order to ensure an integrative approach and continous improvement of education, research and visibility activities this department uses the following entities:

- Environmental engineering and management studies, at the BSc and MSc level
- Doctoral and post-doc programmes in Environmental Engineering
- Multidisciplinary and trans-disciplinary research collaborations at national and international level

Cristofor Simionescu Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Environmental Protection and Department of Environmental Engineering and Management have established strong networks of cooperation at different levels:
At national level, the faculty and department members have developed very strong cooperation relations in various research and educational projects with universities and research institutes throughout Romania: Politehnica University Bucharest, University of Bucharest, Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest, Politehnica University Timisoara, Babes-Bolyai University of Cluj Napoca, “Al.I. Cuza” University, Iasi, “Petru Poni” Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry, Iasi, Transilvania University of Braşov, Ovidius University of Constanta, etc.
At international level the research cooperation was developed, staff members being involved in research projects, research mobilities, networking activities, visiting professors (universities/ research institutes from: Austria, Spain, Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Greece, France, United Kingdom, Belgium, Denmark, Poland, Sweden, Finland, Republic of Moldova, USA, Brazil, Canada, etc.
The visibility of DEEM is developed mostly through international cooperation, by means of:
- Organization of the International Conferences on Environmental Engineering and Management, ICEEM, an event which occurs every 2 years (since 2002) and has become a landmark for the international environmental scientific community, in 2025, the conference being at its 13 th edition (more information on https://www.iceem.tuiasi.ro/ )
- Publication of the Environmental Engineering and Management Journal http://omicron.ch.tuiasi.ro/EEMJ/ (since 2002). EEMJ is an international ISI ranked peer- reviewed journal, with an ISI impact factor of 1.1 (2022).
Università Politecnica delle Marche (UNIVPM) was established in 1971 and has about 17000 students and include five faculties of Engineering, with more than 7200 students. Department of Science and Engineering of Materials, Environment and Urban Planning and the Laboratory of Water and Waste Environmental Engineering (WWEELab) led by Prof. Francesco Fatone coordinated the Horizon2020 Innovation Action “SMART-Plant” and has been or is WP leader/partner of more than 20 European or international projects in the last 5 years from different financing programmes.
Since its 1 st Edition, ICEEM01, held in September 2002 in Iasi, the ICEEM international visibility was ensured by a broad participation of scientists coming from all continents and plenary/keynote conferences held by international prestigious scientists.
