TUIASI organizes the 14th edition of EPEi 2026, an international IEEE conference in electrical and power engineering

The School of Electrical Engineering (IEEIA) of the Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iaşi will host the 14th edition of the IEEE International Conference and Exposition on Electrical and Power Engineering, EPEi 2026, from 22 to 24 October 2026. The event is organized in collaboration with the Alumni Society of the Graduates of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of Iaşi (SETIS). More than 120 scientific papers from 30 countries have been submitted to date.

This year’s conference is chaired by the Dean of IEEIA, Professor Dumitru Dorin Lucache, together with Academician Seeram Ramakrishna, Tsinghua Chair Professor and Director of the iWearables Center at Tsinghua University, one of the world’s most highly cited researchers in materials science.

A biennial fixture since 1999

“The EPEi conference has become a tradition, established as a significant international event in the field of electrical and power engineering, held once every two years. Now in its 14th edition, the conference is organized with the intention of drawing to Iaşi a broad national and international audience from the academic and industrial communities, so that it may serve, for the duration of the event, as a forum for debate on the most remarkable results of scientific research in the field,”

said Professor Dumitru Dorin Lucache, Dean of the School of Electrical Engineering and Conference Chair.

The first edition took place in 1999. The conference has since remained a fixture of the scientific calendar in Iaşi.

Under the auspices of IEEE, with the support of four professional societies

EPEi 2026 is technically co-sponsored by the IEEE Romania Section and is listed in the IEEE conference database under record number 72077. The conference is supported by four IEEE societies: the Industry Applications Society, the Power & Energy Society, the Education Society, and the Instrumentation & Measurement Society.

Accepted papers will be submitted for inclusion in the IEEE Xplore digital library and forwarded to several citation and indexing bodies, including Clarivate Analytics Web of Science. Papers are assessed through peer review, managed via the Microsoft CMT platform.

Authors who submitted full papers by the 18 July deadline will receive notification of acceptance on 31 July. Registration, fee payment, and camera-ready submission are due by 30 September.

Seven plenary speakers from six countries

The plenary program brings together researchers from Asia, Europe, and Romania:

  • Seeram Ramakrishna, Tsinghua University
  • G. João Rocha, University of Évora, Portugal
  • Ioana Pisica, Brunel University London
  • Philipp Nenninger, Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences, Germany
  • Tony Lujia Chen, University of Manchester, United Kingdom
  • Cornelia Ivaşcu, ASRO, Romania
  • Saroj Pullteap, Silpakorn University, Thailand

The list remains open, with further speakers to be announced by the organizers.

Artificial intelligence joins the conference tracks

The thematic structure has changed since the previous edition. Among the thirteen tracks for 2026 are informatics and applications of artificial intelligence, along with energy efficiency, neither of which appeared as a separate track in 2024.

The full list comprises: automation and robotics; informatics and applications of artificial intelligence; education in electrical and power engineering; electrical apparatus; electrical machines; electromagnetic fields and electrical circuits; energy efficiency; industrial applications; management and entrepreneurship in the electrical industry; metrology and measurement systems; power electronics and electrical drives; power systems; and renewable energy.

Romania’s power sector on display at the faculty

“Through this event we aim to attract leading researchers from around the world who will become ambassadors for the city of Iaşi and for the scientific and technical community within it. In addition, for the duration of the conference we will host an exhibition with stands presenting the most relevant companies in the Romanian electrical and power sector, having already secured the attendance of the regional companies responsible for the transmission and distribution of electricity, Transelectrica and Delgaz Grid SRL”

noted Professor Marian-Silviu Poboroniuc, Vice-Dean of IEEIA.

This year’s partners include, alongside Transelectrica and Delgaz Grid, the companies WPD, Arcadis, Schaeffler, and Quartz Matrix. The exhibition will be held on the premises of the School of Electrical Engineering, where companies will present their activities and opportunities for collaboration.

This year’s edition will take place mainly on site, with online participation available to some authors.

The conference also hosts ELStudIS 2026, an international scientific competition for bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral students. The symposium is organized in thematic sections covering electrical engineering, power engineering, and their associated informatics applications.

Accepted papers will be presented in Iaşi between 22 and 24 October 2026 and published in the journal Lucrările Simpozionului Ştiinţific Studenţesc ELStudIS, ISSN 3061-4384.

Participation is free of charge, and students from outside Iaşi are provided with accommodation and meals for the duration of the symposium. To register, students complete the form available at www.epe.tuiasi.ro/elstudis and send their paper, written in Romanian according to the required template, to ionel.pavel@academic.tuiasi.ro, indicating their chosen thematic area.

Visitors welcome on the opening day

“The conference is part of a broader effort to strengthen the standing of Iaşi as a center of culture and creativity in Romania. We invite all those interested to join us and visit the exhibition at the school on the opening day of the conference, 22 October 2026”

the Dean of IEEIA concluded.

The exhibition is open between 10.00 and 17.00. The full program, the list of speakers, and the conditions for participation are available at www.epe.tuiasi.ro.
