Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iași will host research internships for students from Nagoya Institute of Technology, Japan

Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iași (TUIASI) leadership welcomed a delegation from Nagoya Institute of Technology (NIT), Japan this Thursday, 12 september 2019, and set the basis for an agreement in which Japanese students following NIT “Creative Engineering” programme will come in research internships at TUIASI.

Once this agreement is in place, the foreign students will come in 90-day master’s-level research internships.

The NIT delegation was composed of Nobuhiro Inuzuka, Vice President for student affairs and educational reform promotion,
Shin-ichi Matsuoka, professor at the Department of Life Science and Applied Chemistry, and Ando Mitsuko, Assistant Manager at the International Student Affairs Office.

With the help of these research internships, the visiting students will be better equipped to tackle further career challenges. During his speech, Nobuhiro Inuzuka said that the students will gain fresh insight through research at a top-level international institution, will gain practical abilities suited to developing multiple-field projects and will broaden their cultural horizon, gaining knowledge about the world living far abroad.

“About 100 students each year are enrolled in the Creative Engineering programme. Upon finishing it, they have the chance to choose a specialisation from all the fields at our university. An important part of the programme is this one, where we send our students abroad for three months, so they can broaden their horizon, including their engineering views. Basically, they have to spend three months either somewhere in industry or abroad at a top research institution.”

After a meeting between TUIASI leadership and the NIT delegation, representatives of the 11 faculties of TUIASI showed the visitors the main research projects of their respective faculty in which the foreign students can enroll.

Professor Irina Lungu, International Affairs Vice Rector at TUIASI, said that the Technical University of Iași and Nagoya Institute of Technology already have a relationship through the Department of Mathematics and Information Technology at TUIASI. The basis of this relationship was built during the U.S. Higher Education Partnership Fair – NAFSA, the biggest international university fair in the world.

“Internationally, our university has academical relationships with 112 universities in Asia, one in Japan.”

At the moment, NIT has 80 partnerships with European universities and research institutions, TUIASI being one of them. NIT is one of the most well known and efficient universities in Japan.
